How it works
- 1
Create a trip
Name it, pick the destination and the departure time. You can plan days or weeks ahead.
- 2
Share the link
Send it on WhatsApp. Everyone joins from the link with their name and car. Nothing to install.
- 3
Start sharing on the day
In each car, the copilot's phone taps Start sharing. Drivers navigate with Waze or Google Maps as usual.
What the group sees
Live group map
Every car as a colored pin, and who's ahead, behind or with you.
Stop alerts
When a car stops for more than 2 minutes, everyone hears about it.
Fall-behind alerts
When a car drops more than 5 km behind, the group knows.
Quick messages
Need gas, bathroom stop, slow down, all good. One tap, read aloud to everyone.
Vote on stops
Propose a gas station or a restaurant. When most cars agree, it becomes the next stop for everyone.
Waze and Google Maps
Directions to the destination or the next stop open in the driver's own navigation app.

Questions
How do I keep several cars together on a road trip?
Create a trip on Shared Routes and send the link to the group on WhatsApp. In each car, one passenger (the copilot) opens the link and taps Start sharing. Everyone then sees all the cars on one map, gets an alert when a car stops or falls behind, and can send quick messages like "Need gas" without typing.
Does Shared Routes replace Waze or Google Maps?
No. Drivers keep using Waze or Google Maps for turn-by-turn directions. Shared Routes shows where the rest of the group is, and opens Waze or Google Maps with the destination or the next agreed stop.
Do I need to download an app or create an account?
No. Shared Routes works in the phone's web browser on iPhone and Android. You join with a link and a name; there are no accounts or passwords.
Why does each car need a copilot?
Phone browsers stop sharing location when the screen locks or you switch apps. So a passenger keeps Shared Routes open with the screen on, while the driver's phone runs Waze or Google Maps.
Does it work with motorcycles?
Yes. Choose Motorcycle when you join. The passenger's phone, or a second phone with the app open, shares the bike's location.
Can I plan a trip ahead of time?
Yes. Create the trip days or weeks before, send the invite early and add it to your calendar. Nobody's location is shared until the day, when each copilot taps Start sharing.
What happens if we lose signal?
Dead zones are common outside the city. The app reconnects by itself, and until then the group sees when that car was last seen.
Who can see my location, and for how long?
Only people with the trip link, and only during the trip. Sharing stops when you arrive or the trip ends, and all trip data is deleted 24 hours later.
Is it free?
Yes. Shared Routes is free while it's being tested.
